Zefir7 is the monthly Designers Café at Stroom Den Haag i.c.w. BNO Kring Den Haag. This time with Ramiro Espinoza, who will talk about the typical swash letters on traditional Amsterdam bar windows.

What are the origins of these exuberant swash letters that can be found on the windows of many of the most traditional bars of Amsterdam? Who painted them? Was it a collective creation or the work of a gifted letter painter? How old is the style?

For almost a decade Ramiro Espinoza thoroughly researched this lettering style and together with Rob Becker, documented every surviving example in Amsterdam, Maastrich and Ghent in an effort to answer these questions and raise awareness about the importance of this little known chapter of the Dutch graphical tradition.

Espinoza will give a sneak preview of his book (to be published in April) and will discuss with the audience aspects of his survey, as well as some recent type design projects.
