The Trial: The State of Russia versus Oleg Sentsov is a documentary about Ukrainian film director Oleg Sentsov, who was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for terrorism and arms trafficking. The film follows the trial of Sentsov in a courtroom in Rostov-on-Don. He is charged with leading an anti-Russian terrorist movement and planning terrorist attacks on Russian infrastructure and monuments, because he was against the annexation of Crimea by the Russian State.

About the Sakharov Prize
Awarded for the first time in 1988 to Nelson Mandela and Anatoli Marchenko, the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought is the highest tribute paid to human rights work by the European Parliament. In 2018 the 31st edition of the prize went to the Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov.
