Read Edward Skidelsky: How To Live A Good Life? on The Pop-Up City

British economist Edward Skidelsky's most recent book How Much is Enough? Money and the Good Life, co-written with his father Robert Skidelsky, argues that people in wealthy countries like Britain and the United States work too hard and by doing so miss out on the good life - an ethical concept of a life as 'worthy of desire, not just one that is widely desired.'

Edward Skidelsky's original research was on the early twentieth century German philosopher Ernst Cassirer (published in January 2009 with Princeton University Press as Ernst Cassirer: The Last Philosopher of Culture), but his interests have since shifted to moral and political philosophy. He has written essays on the institutional theory of art, the intellectual roots of neoconservatism, and the ethics of capitalism.

We need the good life, not pre-washed salad leaves

His most recent book, How Much is Enough? Money and the Good Life (Allen Lane, 2012) has been translated into thirteen languages worldwide. A following book, The Language of the Virtues, has been commissioned by Princeton University Press.

The Knight's Move
Survey lectures season 2013-2014
The Knight's Move is a series of lectures by eminent international speakers who stand out by their unusual, enlightening and inspirational visions concerning the city, urbanity, the public domain, and community. Just as the knight moves in an atypical and unusual way across the chessboard, Stroom Den Haag likewise wants to cut across all disciplines and thus stimulate rethinking the city.

Media partner of The Knight's Move 2013-2014 is The Pop-Up City.

The Knight's Move lectures are made possible in part by the Creative Industries Fund NL and the Haagse Bluf Fonds.
