How are we going to feed our cities in the future? This will be the central question of the Food Forward exhibition that will open at Stroom Den Haag in January 2012. Food Forward will present radical and visionary projects like 'The Incredible Shrinking Man' by Arne Hendriks, a speculative design research about the consequences of downsizing the human species to 50 centimeters. It has been a long established trend for people to grow taller. As a direct result we need more energy, more food and more space. But what if we decided to turn this trend around? Small people need less food and less space. The Malieveld in The Hague would be big enough to supply food for the city's population, small balconies would become full-size vegetable gardens. Imagine how big a chicken would be compared to the shrinking man? Yes! As big as an ostrich!

Ostrich BBQ
As an introduction to the Food Forward exhibition Arne Hendriks (together with Harold de Bree) will prepare an ostrich as if it were a chicken. If you are interested to join this Ostrich Dinner party please make your reservation (see form at bottom of the page). It costs € 30,- per person (incl. drinks). The process of butchering, cooking and eating the ostrich will be documented on film and will be presented during the Food Forward exhibition. By their presence guests give their permission to be part of this film.
