The Hague: City without walls?

3 October - 13 December 2015
Location: window Stroom Den Haag
Open: 24 hours a day
Part of Culture of Control

In the window of Stroom Den Haag the architect Floris van der Zee will create a presentation about urban defense techniques like walls, moats and embankments, using examples from both the past and the present, like Europol and ICC.

The Hague presents itself as city without walls. An image fitting the message it wants to carry out. Open, tolerant and international: city of peace and justice. However, this carefully constructed story also has a downside. Even though historic plans for town walls and fortifications were never executed, the current city of peace and justice remarkably includes walls, ramparts and moats.
