Ondertussen: Marius Lut

The Hague artist Marius Lut shows a selection of works made for his soon to be released publication ‘Form no Form/ The Black Series'. This artist's book serves as a framework and platform for artistic research and experiment. ‘Form no Form/ The Black Series' includes both existing works and series of newly created works, often made specifically for the publication. The series originated from a desire to bring things back to their purest form, character and function. In addition, Lut looked for destruction and imperfection as a counterweight to the inviolability and pure language of minimal art. In order to add some instability to the works Lut experimented with reflection, repetition, use of colour and minimalist basic forms.

For the overall structure of the publication Marius Lut was inspired by the various functions of an imaginary building. Walk-in space, rest areas, the passage of time, volume, scale, proportions and other terms from architecture serve as a point of departure for the format and structure of the book. The publication makes use of white space to put a radical emphasis on the works.

The three works in the Ondertussen presentation are enlargements and materializations of the image research for the publication. In this way the publication works both as a catalyst and as a source for the creation of new work.

In 2013 Marius Lut received a PRO Kunstprojectensubsidie for ‘Form no Form/ The Black Series'.

Ondertussen
The former reception area of Stroom has been converted into a small exhibition space. On a regular basis there are presentations of artists who have received a subsidy in the categories Stroom PRO- and SPOT-grants. The informal exhibitions and presentations are intended to illustrate the diversity of the Stroom grant system. The program in the space is called Ondertussen (the Dutch word for 'meanwhile').
