Ondertussen: Channa Boon

16 February thru 30 March 2011
Location: Hogewal 1-9, The Hague

In April 2009 Channa Boon was part of an international group of 19 artists who visited Korea. During this trip they traveled to Seoul, the coastal town of Busan, the island of Jeju, and Cheongju. The visit was initiated by the artist Byong - Uk Park in concurrence with Nine Dragonheads and focused on art in relation to eco-systems.

In the Ondertussen space Channa Boon presents work she made during her stay in Korea. Two video films focus on the island of Jeju, which she visited again after the first trip. During her stay on the island Channa Boon became fascinated by the autonomous culture of the female divers and by the caves at the south side of the island (excavated by prisoners of war in the World War 2, under command of the Japanese invaders).

For her participation in 'Nine Dragonheads' Channa Boon received a Stroom SPOT-exhibition subsidy.

Ondertussen
The former reception area of Stroom has been converted into a small exhibition space. On a regular basis there are presentations of artists who have received a subsidy in the categories Stroom PRO- and SPOT-grants. The informal exhibitions and presentations are intended to illustrate the diversity of the Stroom grant system. The program in the space is called Ondertussen (Meanwhile).
