The Waves that came from Ternate

Ternate is an island in Indonesia
My grandmother's grandmother came from there
her name was

Abrahami Demelveda

I don't know much about this island
My grandmother told me that there where a lot of Portuguese people
When they came there and which year is unknown to me
The boats would go from the Netherlands to it's former colony in Indonesia
Before the Dutch the Portuguese already had their colonies
My great grandmother was born in 1900 in Ternate
She has died in 1993 when I was 9 years old
I remember
But I don't remember everything
My fascination with this island is starting to grow
I have been to Jakarta and the Island Java when I was 19 years old
It was my first journey to Asia without my parents
I visited the house of my grandmother in Jakarta
I remember it was an old house and other people were living there
I was allowed to take photographs
Not inside
Ever since I have been fascinated with the boat journeys from Indonesia to The Netherlands and the other way around
The stories from Uncle Ben from Texas, my grandmother's brother
The stories from Janine, my grandmother's friend, about the Indonesian family
The conversation about the past between Megumi and my grandmother

The stories of my grandmother

Several conversations nearby the sea
