Ondertussen: Dorota Walentynowicz

22 November 2009 thru 10 January 2010
Location: Hogewal 1-9

The former reception area of Stroom has been converted into a small exhibition space. On a regular basis there are presentations of artists who have received a subsidy in the categories Stroom PRO- and SPOT-grants. The informal exhibitions and presentations are intended to illustrate the diversity of the Stroom grant system. The program in the space is called Ondertussen (Meanwhile).

Dorota Walentyniwicz developed her installation 'Plato machine' during a three-month residency (the Bremer Kunststipendium) in Bremen, Germany. The installation shows an organic netwerk of transparent tubes and cell-like shapes  which together form one chaotic knot.

At the foot of this network several small pinhole cameras have been installed. During the exhibition period these archetypial photo cameras capture the kinetic process on light sensitive material. The pictures are developed, printed, numbered, and archived. Together these images present the viewer with a new photographic (re)presentation of the space.

The installation 'Plato machine' was recently shown in CCA Laznia in Gdansk (PL) and in Gallery Amer Abbas in Vienna (AT). In 'Ondertussen' Dorota Walentynowicz shows two pinhole photographs and a video work which give an impression of the installation 'Plato machine'. In 2007 she received a 'PRO-Kunstprojectensubsidie' for this project.
